While the urban and the semi-urban masses are catered through permanent science museums/centres in cities and towns, the need to bring the rural people under the purview of science saw the first of the mobile science units roll out of BITM in the year 1965.
BITM & its satellite units now operate 8 MSE units in West Bengal and in the neighbouring states.
